Steamed Tofu & Bean Curd Slices Recipe ( 鴛鴦蒜素鵝蒸豆腐 )

One of my closest friends is pescatarian and loves to make recipes with bean curd. This recipe was inspired by her because I keep telling my mom about these “weird brown soy cubes” that my friend was feeding me during first year of university.

This is super simple. If I can do it , you can too.

INGREDIENTS

  • 350 grams of bean curd (1 pack)
  • 700 g pack of tofu
  • 1 ½ whole garlic
  • 2 green onions
  • 1 red chili pepper depends on preference
  • 1 pinch of salt

INSTRUCTIONS

Using a grater or blender ( I’m lazy to wash an entire blender. I would suggest a grater ,but my mom said both works 🙂 ) to crush 1 1/2 whole garlic. In a pan, add some oil and pan fry 1 whole garlic until golden brown. Mix the cooked garlic with raw garlic. The key is to use both cooked garlic and raw garlic for extra “garlicy” goodness. Even though, it is the same thing it brings out their own unique tastes.

Next, chop the green onions and chili peppers. Slice the bean curd and tofu into even slices. In a small bowl, mix the green onions and chili peppers with the garlic mixture. Place 1/4 of the mixture on a plate to prepare for steaming. Organize the slices of bean curd and tofu like a pattern. ( shown in picture below)

Pour the rest of the garlic, green onion and chili pepper mixture on top. Steam on high heat for 10 minutes. Our household personally uses the Cusinart 2 in 1 Steam Oven. Ingredients
  

  • 350 grams of bean curd (1 pack)
  • 700 g pack of tofu
  • 1 ½ whole garlic
  • 2 green onions
  • 1 red chili pepper depends on preference
  • 1 pinch of salt

Instructions
 

  • Mince all garlic using a gratter or blender
  • Pan-fry approximately 1 garlic on a pan. Add a pinch of salt into the fry.Mix the raw garlic into the fried garlic.
  • Cut tofu and bean curd into rectangular slices. (preferably the same size to cook evenly)
  • Dice green onions and red chili pepper
  • Place the green onions and red chili pepper into the garlic mixture.
  • Place the some of the mixture onto the serving plate
  • Place tofu and bean curd in a pattern like form onto the plate as shown in the picture.
  • Add the rest of the garlic, red chili pepper and green onion mixture on top
  • On high heat, steam for approximately 10 minutes.
  • Serve

Notes

  • If you like a stronger aroma , pan fry more green onion in a separate pan and pour the boiling green onion and oil onto serving plate.
  • Use a toothpick to poke holes in the bean curd to allow the bean curd to absorb the variious flavours before placing it in a pattern like orientation with tofu
